Chivas is coming off of back to back wins and has three upcoming opponents near the bottom of the standings that could catapult them into the playoffs.

If you asked any Chivas fan where they predict Chivas would be after week 8 of league play almost everyone would have said top 5 at least. They currently sit 8th in the standings and if Liguilla started today they would have just made it.

With Chivas usually, the first few weeks are optimistic, and the wins are okay along with the ties, but around halfway they start to drop week after week. It’s week 8 going into week 9 and they have won back to back games climbing up from the 12th spot and further out positions they were at earlier in the season.

The next few weeks if Chivas do things correctly and put out some decent squads, they can string together a winning streak as their next few opponents currently don’t hold a league spot higher than 7th place and even then that’s Los Gallos de Queretaro.

Next week starts that journey against Atlas in El Clasico Tapatio. 4 things are promised in this world life & death, taxes, and Jalisco running red. Chivas have dominated in the past few years, even when things haven’t been the best for Chivas the bully Atlas.

Most remarkably Alexis vega will be the player to watch as over a year ago last February he had a Hat Trick against Atlas and manhandled them and almost streaking on the field.  Atlas form looks bad too currently sitting at 17th place having lost the last 4 matches and if they lose el Clasico Tapatio their coach Rafael Puente JR. who is currently on the hot seat will probably be on the outs.

The week after for week 10 Chivas faces off against dead last Monterrey who can’t seem to find rhythm, success, or their own feet when playing. Argentine striker Rogelio Funes Mori only has 2 goals and has missed 5 big scoring opportunities, averaging only a 6.86 score on Sofascore.com compared to his 7.25 during Monterrey’s championship run.

Championship fatigue is real especially with how close the start of the season as compared to when it ended. Only giving players a 2-week rest and that was with 1 week of play already starting in between that rest, but America did the same and are currently in 2nd place even with injuries. There should be no excuses for Chivas to handle business and drop Monterrey even further into chaos as Alexis Vega should make their defense pay with players a step too slow like Miguel Layun.

Next. Chivas win back to back games. dark

Week 11 brings Queretaro who can be dangerous as they sit above Chivas in league rankings and they are one of the best counter-attacking teams in the league. Chivas have been stout on defense thanks to the likes of young defender Gilberto Sepulveda, and as long as they control the tempo of the game giving Jose Juan Macias and Fernando Beltran time to set up opportunities then Chivas should at least walk away with a tie in a worst-case scenario. Although they are in a good position to win as Queretaro hasn’t won a game in almost 3 weeks now.

After Queretaro Chivas take on Morelia where they look to try to disrupt Chivas. This Morelia team looks shades different compared to the one who upset Leon in the Liguilla’s first round last season. Uruguayan goalkeeper Sebastian Sosa hasn’t been the wall he usually is and the losses of players as Peruvian playmaker Edson Flores to MLS has only hurt them as they currently sit 15th on the table only winning 2 games this season thus far.

Chivas barring any injuries should win putting them in contention for Liguilla and with 4 out of 5 wins or 5 out of 5 wins. The player to watch for Chivas will be winger Uriel Antuna. Where do you think Chivas will land? Will they make Liguilla?
