Matchday 16 continued apace with Pachuca, Guadalajara and Toluca biting the bit heading down the home stretch.

Antonio Mohamed earned the first win of his current tenure with Monterrey and the 3-2 win over Pachuca keeps the Rayados playoffs hopes alive. As for the Tuzos, their third straight loss made their tunnel to the postseason seem impossibly rocky.

In Guadalajara, Tijuana enhanced its chances of making the Liguilla by posting its second straight shutout victory. With this result, the Chivas’ playoff dreams were pretty much snuffed out.

Farther north, the host Tigres defeated Toluca 1-0, virtually assuring that Diablos coach Ricardo La Volpe will lose his job come December. The Tigres next face the Gallos Blancos in a game that could secure a top seed for the winner.

Two games remain in the Liga MX’s midweek matchday (FC Juárez at Morelia and León at Cruz Azul) before we spill right into the Matchday 17 schedule with two games Friday night. A Morelia win would eliminate Puebla from the playoff race, but a full 17 of the 19 teams in Liga MX still entertain postseason hopes.
