Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders represented well:
We are now in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions league, and two MLS sides put away two Liga MX sides. It was just a few days ago that we proclaimed that the Liga MX should put more importance on playing in the Copa Libertadores rather than the CONCACAF Libertadores. It isn’t just for a bump in competition, but also for heightened glory.
We’re not ones to refuse to eat crow when wrong, but the things is, Tigres (Tigers) weren’t supposed to lose last night. I’m sure many of the analysts had them as the favorites, like us, and this probably made Jozy Altidore angry. The first goal belonging to the Tigres likely fueled his blinding rage even further and that is why Jozy scored a cheeky goal.
Highlights to get your juices going
Recaps are boring and we know you don’t care for analysis. Neither do we. What we do enjoy is reliving past glories whenever possible. Tigres versus Toronto FC was the type of match that justifies revisiting. The first shot came from the Chilean Eduardo Vargas, who really put some chile on his shot. All seemed well in the first half for the Liga MX side until Toronto FC demanded respect:
Chivas (The Goats) lost to the Seattle Sounders. It was also made by Clint Dempsey–who has a very punchable face. It’s not to say he’s not a good soccer player, but I know there are more of you who feel this way out there. Just think about the rap career he attempted. Guadalajara let this guy best them. Chivas haven’t had the best year so far. Fortunately, a 1-0 is not impossible to come back from. Check out the highlights:
Viva Liga MX saves face:
I haven’t forgot my last post trashing CONCACAF Champions League. I just neglected to mention that the MLS should also head over to Copa Libertadores. The one benefit of the CCL is that at least these teams can play against each other as a litmus test. Mexico and North America should team up to bring the coveted South American trophy home. These matches are fine until next season. Leave CONCACAF Champions League until we win Libertadores and have the South Americans clamor to play in the CONCACAF.
