It’s the semi-finals to the Champions League:
It’s another Champions League day in both Europe and the USA. You shouldn’t skip out on work today so I won’t bother talking about the European games that happen at 1:45 pm CT in the middle of the work week. Not many have time to watch soccer at that time anyway–moves are to be made.
Tonight is the next game in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League. If you happened to catch yesterday’s match with CF America and Toronto FC, you know how exciting things can get. The shoot by Jozy Altidore was exquisite but it somehow increases my anger. Where was this Jozy during the World Cup qualifiers? It’s unacceptable. Now the whole USA has to wait another 4 years just to take on the whole world. Enough about that, here are the highlights in case you missed out on Taco Tuesday (seriously, get some friends):
Chivas vs Red Bulls
There is no certainty in anything in the world and that’s good enough reason to follow CONCACAF Champions League. The New York Red Bulls are the favorites tonight, but if you’re a betting man you can lay it down for the Chivas of Guadalajara. I can’t give you the odds because I only have a drinking problem, not a gambling habit.
The Chivas have had somewhat of a resurgence after starting the year very poorly in Liga MX. They struggled to get a win after a string of ties and losses. Then they took out the Seattle Sounders and lame-rapper Clint Dempsey. All went right in the world. Statistically, more babies laughed and more mothers smiled the night Clint Dempsey was sent out of the CONCACAF Champions League.
The New York Red Bulls currently sit at the 5th spot in their league table after drawing 2 games and losing 2 games. They’ve lost only those 2 games this year and they didn’t sweat too much when they put out Tijuana by 5-1 on aggregate. Now that Zlatan is at the LA Galaxy, New York needs to back the Red Bulls in order to show the magician that the competition isn’t easier on this side.
