Liga MX Semis: Toluca vs Tijuana, Santos vs America
Liga MX Semis on a Taco Thursday:
The Santos Laguna play Club de Futbol America tonight at 7:30 pm CT, with Toluca vs Tijuana right after. Here we find ourselves, toward the end of Liga MX for this term. Pay attention and you might hear the low buzz vibrating in anticipation of the World Cup. It is silly to talk about the World Cup while there are still many cups to contend for, one can’t deny that June is ever so close. Well, it’s not that close. But it’s close enough to warrant unexplainable bursts of anxiety at random times.
We want you to hone that energy and release a bit tonight as you and your friends enjoy Taco Thursday. Firstly, it’s borderline sacrilegious to move Taco Tuesday to Thursday but it had to be done. Secondly, nothing should be celebrated on a Thursday because tomorrow is Friday. Friday is a festival of its own and coupled with Taco Tuesday, you should have enough to survive a work week. Too many holidays will mold you into a weak man and you’ll be prone to cry in public.
Underdogs vs the Big Dawgs:
In the first match of the night, CF America will look to gut Santos Laguna in the first leg game. A decisive win would mean their second leg match will be more of a scrimmage than a competition. CF America is the favorite to advance to the finals but overconfidence is a curse. We didn’t foresee Santos eliminating Tigres from the competition. Taking out the defending champions is no easy feat. Santos is here to make the most of this opportunity. With enough tenacity and grit, they can send Miguel Herrera on an early vacation.
After Santos vs America, we will be treated to Tijuana vs Toluca. Toluca finished at the very top of the table. It will all mean nothing if they don’t make it to the final. Tijuana finished as number 6, with a whole 11 points separating them from Toluca.
Tijuana drug money?
I’m thinking out loud here. I’ve been quietly speculating how much cartel money is in the Tijuana soccer team. Remember how Pablo Escobar basically funded his town’s football team? I wonder if that’s the case with Tijuana or any other Liga MX team. It’s really none of my business (quite literally) but can dirty money win trophies? Tune in tonight to find out.
