Santos: There was a firefight!

Santos scored 4 shoots to America’s 1.  I am fortunate enough to have never been beaten up in my life.  I’ve gotten into a few fights but I typically get along with others.  One reason for my diplomacy is because you never know when you could get beaten publicly.  I think about how the morning after a beating at the hands of another man would feel like.  CF America knows that feeling today.  They woke up, looked at the mirror and did not recognize the person looking back at them.  Santos Laguna scored at will, though the game was competitive.

The game started hot early.  Santos scored from far, but you could see all that in the highlights.  Santos Laguna wasn’t supposed to win last night, especially by such a margin.  Viva Liga MX kept the live tweeting to the bare minimum because fixing our eyes to anything else but the television screen would have been wrong.  Things got really good when America answered back to Santos’ first shot, then they scored their second.  It was 2-1, then, suddenly, CF America was awarded a penalty shot after a controversial call.  It seemed as though CF America would take the chance to tie up the game.  A 2-2 game seemed imminent, the chaos would continue.

Then Jimenez stepped up to take the kick.

Penalty stopped; hearts sink; Santos rise

Jimenez’s penalty shot ended up in the hands of the goalkeeper.  It was incredible.  That moment sealed America’s fate, although there was still another half to play.  All Jimenez had to do was to trick the goalkeeper.  A simple faint or a tucked shot.  It wasn’t meant to be.  Now CF America has quite the deficit to come back from on their second leg.  This is why we watch Liga MX, for games like the coming second leg.  Imagine the calamity if America pulls off the stunner, or if Santos scores 4 more.
