With the United Soccer League (USL) season winding down, I thought I’d take a look at a few players I think could potentially make a Liga MX side.

Up front, I need to stress these are not transfer rumors and they may not even be realistic. These are simply players I have enjoyed watching and think they have a little something that could allow them to actually make it in Liga MX.

I follow the United Soccer League closer than MLS. Even though it is technically the 2nd tier of the US Soccer “pyramid”* , I enjoy the fact that there are more teams, a large number of young American players and, though this is purely opinion and taste, I find the fan cultures to feel a bit more authentic as a whole.

Due to the fact that I spend a lot of my limited free-time watching USL and Liga MX, I wondered about a cross-over. What players that have been roaming USL could make the jump to Liga MX and actually make a game-day roster within a year or two of joining a Mexican club.

I can’t stress enough that I know these players are not going to make a Liga MX roster anytime soon. Probably not, anyway. This is simply a thought experiment that I thought could be fun to explore. If Liga MX looked to the USL, they could continue their growth into American markets. It would also be beneficial to these players to get minutes in a bigger league.

*It’s not a true pyramid. More of a column, I guess? I don’t know. It’s weird.
