Opinion: Three USL players I’d like to see get a shot in Liga MX

Efrain Alvarez – LA Galaxy II – Forward – 16 (MEX/USA)

This could be a real thing. Efrain Alvarez is just 16 and leads “Los Dos” with 12 goals as of this writing. A dual-national, Alvarez is still eligible to play for either the USMNT or El Tri. He has been playing for the Mexican Youth Teams, though, so I’d expect him to remain there.

This kid is a pure goal-scorer. At 16-years-old, he is scoring grown-man goals against pretty good competition in the USL Western Conference. As LA Galaxy’s feeder club, it seems the MLS side is content to let him marinate in the USL while they go out and sign guys like Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Some Liga MX side who could use an injection of Mexican youth striker talent could get quite a steal if they could swoop in and nab Alvarez.  In the proper environment, he could blossom into the next great Mexican striker. I truly believe that. This kid is good.

For Example:

Dream Liga MX Fit: Club America. This is purely from my perspective as a fan. I don’t think Piojo would give Alvarez enough time or trust for America to be the best situation for him. If I set that aside, though, America has been in need of a player they can rely on for goals other than 34-year-old Oribe Peralta. Dreaming of Alvarez and Diego Lainez on the same pitch with their massive potential is something I do every time I catch LA Galaxy II highlights.
