Mexico was unable to capture a win against Chile at home , suffering a 1-0 in a tough and competitive match. Even though the score did not favor El Tri, Mexico played better than their previous match against Costa Rica.

The score this time was not 7-0 yet again Chile was able to beat El Tri at home at the Estadio Corregidora in Queretaro. Nicolas Castillo, the ex Pumas forward, scored the only goal of the night  that gave Chile the 1-0 win, in a game where a tie would be arguably the best result for the night due to both teams having several opportunities throughout the night.

The first half play was largely in favor of Mexico. Their attack and opportunities were created by Marco Fabian, who played as captain, Raul Jimenez and Jesus “Tecatito” Corona, but they could not ultimately capitalize because of poor finishing that could have given El Tri a lead going into the half. A midfield orchestrated by Erik Gutierrez showed the young talented player of PSV will be one of the key figures for Mexico in the upcoming years.

The second half favored Chile due to Mexico poor management in the midfield and the rocky defense going up against Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez and company. A few counters that Chile created were initially saved by Necaxa goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez, who had three crucial saves by the end of the night.  Although, Chile took the lead, there were certainly a few lessons learned for the young, talented squad of Mexico, who will need improvement on their finishing, especially.

Hugo Gonzalez’s performance was the topic of the night, despite the late goal that Castillo scored for Chile. Gonzalez had world-class, crucial saves that could earn him a definite spot on the El Tri roster leading to Qatar 2022.

Mexico will face Argentina twice in less than four days in the month of November. Yet again, more testing preparation for the young players of Mexico.
