Liga MX: America needs finish to finish Toluca
Despite a frustrating first leg for Americanistas, Toluca is under significant pressure in leg two of the Liga MX Apertura 2018 quarterfinals.
What started out looking like a match that would show the strength of Club America turned into a disappointing draw against Liga MX rivals Toluca. Both of America’s goals came from their center backs and everything looked to be going well. Toluca was pressing high up the pitch and putting all sorts of pressure on the America goalkeeper and back line, showing they aren’t afraid of the Mexican giants.
The two away goals give Club America a huge advantage coming back to Estadio Azteca, where it remains to be seen how the pitch will be holding up having hosted the Cruz Azul-Queretaro match the night before this match. Groundskeepers put down new grass recently but weather and general wear from another match might leave the pitch in poor condition. Let’s hope not.
The bigger issue for Las Aguilas might be on their own sideline, though. Toluca has a lot of dangerous weapons, as shown in the first leg, and giving them an inch could end up with them taking a mile.
