Alexis Vega to have a big impact for Chivas as they begin their Liga MX Clausura 2019 campaign.

In arguably the biggest move in a busy Liga MX winter transfer window for Chivas, Alexis Vega reunites with former Toluca coach Jose Cardozo in the hopes of attracting a call up with Mexico’s national team. Having stated publicly that a Mexico call-up was dominant in his decision to leave Toluca, Vega seems determined to obtain a spot.

It’s this determination and hunger that could help turn things around for Chivas who, since winning the Liga MX and Copa MX double in 2017, have had a terrible time ever since.

Scoring goals has been a sore spot for the club, a problem that now seems to be solved with Vega’s determination to gain a spot within the Mexico squad, and he knows that scoring goals for Chivas is a sure-fire way to gain attention.

Cardozo gave Vega his first-team debut at the age of 18 for Toluca and it is perhaps for this reason that Cardozo signed off on a hefty fee for the young Mexican striker.

Staying fit consistently is also a must for Vega, who has suffered a string of lengthy spells in the medical room for Toluca. His goal-scoring record is also an issue as he scored only 12 goals in 55 games in 2018.

Chivas fans hope that, with players such as Brizuela, Chofis and Pulido around him, he has the ability and the help to start scoring much more frequently.

It will be interesting to watch and see Vega’s developing relationship with fellow Mexican striker and high-profile refuerzo Alan Pulido, who is himself striving for a spot in El Tri’s squad.

The curious aspect about Pulido is his apparent switch from a number 9 goal scorer to more of a number 10 creator, which means that if these two players can form a connection, they could help fire Chivas back into the Liguilla.

Having watched Alexis Vega score a couple of golazos against them in the last two seasons, Chivas fans are certainly hopeful that Vega can hit the ground running for El Rebaño Sagrado and his hunger to play for Mexico will no doubt  help him in that quest.
