Santos and Necaxa entrenched at the top
Too little, too late for Chivas? Pumas sabotage own chances.
10. Guadalajara (+4)
The Chivas seem finally to understand Luis Fernando Tena’s philosophy and they looked smooth and confident for long stretches against Querétaro.
11. UNAM (+1)
The only reason the Pumas bumped up a spot after a disastrous tie at home vs FC Juárez is that their prospects appear brighter than do Tijuana’s.
12. Tijuana (-2)
The Xolos were taken apart at home by Monterrey and now they host León who could be playing for the No. 2 seed. Tijuana must win then pray for help from Atlas.
13. FC Juárez (+3)
The Bravos lost six of nine road games this season, but they acquitted themselves well at UNAM’s Estadio CU on Sunday, especially José Joaquín Esquivel.
14. Atlas (-1)
The Zorros were idle this past weekend and have a -5 goal differential. Yet somehow they are not out of the playoff race yet.
15. Cruz Azul (-5)
The Cementeros are going to have to start a rebuilding process in a hurry or risk staggering headlong into the Clausura 2020 without any margin for error. Santos took them apart on Sunday.
16. Atlético de San Luis (-2)
This season can’t end soon enough for the Tuneros. They have a promising roster but going through two coaching changes is disconcerting and demoralizing.
17. Toluca (–)
The Diablos are stumbling down the stretch, losing their past three games by a combined 8-1 score. And they close out the season against league-leading Santos. Might not be pretty.
18. Puebla (–)
The Camoteros put up a good fight against a surging Morelia team, but the roster is simply overmatched.
19. Veracruz (–)
The sad tale of this Tiburones season is not an easy one to digest. This team could disappear before the Clausura 2020 if Liga MX HQ takes appropriate action to address the club’s insolvency.
