After a tremendous tournament with Necaxa in the Apertura 2019, coach Vazquez has new goals for the Clausura 2020.
The Apertura 2019 has not came to its full conclusion but changes are taking place quite rapidly. Not only are players changing jerseys, but there have been a few moves by Liga MX coaches.
Necaxa made some noise in the Liguilla with some skillful play on the field, but at the same time there were audible whispers about the fate of coach Guillermo Vazquez. “Memo” took Necaxa to the playoffs in both the Clausura 2019 and the Apertura 2019 and the Rayos were a relevant team under his tactics. With all his tactics and experience the speculation was finally made true that Vazquez will take over Atletico San Luis in the Clausura 2020, a team that is still searching for their true identity in the Liga MX.
Atletico San Luis finished the Apertura 2019 in poor numbers, in 15th place with 20 points from 6 wins, 2 draws and 10 losses. They also made news for all the wrong reasons, when their own fans broke instigated a riot during a game in October against Queretaro.
Vazquez could certainly turn the Tuneros around with the resume he will bring to the team. He led the Pumas to the Clausura 2011 title and also hoisted a Copa MX trophy as manager of Cruz Azul in the Clausura 2013. That same season he guided the Cementeros to the Liga MX Finals only to lose to America on a rainy night in Estadio Azteca.
Vazquez faces many challenges with Atletico San Luis, a club that only won promotion to Liga MX last summer. So not only will he battle to keep San Luis out of the relegation zone but he will have the task of qualifying his new club for the Liguilla in the Clausura 2020.
