Over/Under Pick: Santos v. Pumas | Over 2.5 (-165)

Pumas will be traveling to Estadio Corona for a match against the green and white striped men of Santos. The surprising start to the season from Pumas has them currently sitting on top of the league table. This includes a strong performance last week in their win against Monterrey, where Pumas had 62% of the possession and accumulated 24 shots. Much of this success can be contributed to the play of their two central midfielders, Johan Vasquez, and the one with the game-winner last week, Juan Vigon.

Santos has been a hard team to analyze thus far. They came into the season with high expectations, but have only managed three points in three games played. Last week they were on the losing side of a 3-0 scoreline against Cruz Azul but were able to generate the majority of possession. With that being said, their typical identity of being a high-scoring team was definitely lacking, having only two shots on goal in that matchup.

Analysis

A recent trend for Santos entails stronger performances when playing at home. In their two away matches, they’ve only accounted for one goal, and in their lone game at home this season they managed to put three in against a strong opponent. Looking back at their previous 10 games, they’ve hit the over in eight of them (80%). Pumas have been consistent on offense, generating high-shot totals and at least one goal in every match this season. Although Santos is suffering from a stagnant goal total on the season, expect them to perform better at home and look for Pumas to continue their form.
