In what was a shocking surprise to everyone last week Renato Ibarra was arrested. America’s winger is being charged with domestic violence and attempted femicide. The trial began over the weekend and as it stands it is not looking favorable for Renato Ibarra.

Club America waited to release a statement on the situation and when they finally did, they asked for more time to wait on more evidence for the case. The official statement also states that the club does not approve of any violent conduct, whether it is verbal or physical. Since then the club has grown silent but slowly started to separate themselves from the player.

This case is completely different from  2010 when Salvador Cabañas was shot in the head of the Bar-Bar. At the time the America leadership was there for every step of the way next to Cabañas, the players were there constantly showing their support for their teammate.

This time nobody in the club has demonstrated support or even talked about the case. On the contrary, they have neglected the matter, as if they do not care, and they are correct in taking this stance. The truth is that the Club and the fans can not support or endorse somebody who has committed such disgusting and unpleasant acts. Today Renato is alone, without defense as he has been unable to find a lawyer to represent him.

Paloma Taracena was the third lawyer to be appointed for Ibarra’s defense and is the third person to pass on the case. This is not normal on such a high profile case and raises so many questions. Why does nobody want to represent him? Is the evidence against him so obvious or bad that nobody wants the case?

This also raises even more questions for the Club itself, how many times had this happened before? Was anybody aware of the situations happening? It is a very difficult situation, and not similar to anything I remember happening in the league off the top of my head.

The club is currently doing its research but it is expected for Las Aguilas to announce that Renato Ibarra will no longer be a part of the club moving forward. The decision is expected to be made as early as today but no later than Thursday. Las Aguilas will be in the spotlight as we await a decision from both the club and judge.
