As days continue to pass and the pandemic situation continues to not settle down, many leagues across the world of almost every sport are starting to suspend their tournaments little by little due to COVID-19.

If the world was not bad enough due to the Coronavirus, the CONCACAF Nations League has decided to suspend their finals tournament including the Gold Cup qualifiers that were supposed to take place at the start of the summer. The Nations League had scheduled two games placed in the city of Houston, Texas where the United States men’s national team would take on Honduras, while Mexicos national team were going to take on Costa Rica on June 4th and just slightly a few days later the third place and finals were to take place in the prestigious ATT Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

CONCACAF made these direct statements in the time being, “Given the ongoing public health situation, and following consultation with FIFA regarding the international football calendar, we have made the decision to suspend the CONCACAF Nations League Finals, which was scheduled for June 4th-7th 2020 in the Houston and Dallas areas.”

It was also announced by the CONCACAF that until further notice the games could take place but there is only one problem. That if this pandemic continues to expand further down the months then another action will have to take place because It could interfere with the FIFA calendar and its scheduled World Cup Qualifiers games that will take place August and September of this year for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Certainly, a huge disadvantage for almost all of those national teams that had games scheduled to be played out for the first half of this year, either friendlies or part of the Nations League tournament but now all of that will have to wait until the entire pandemic situation settles down. As well, what a huge mess this will be once everything is restarted which hopefully It comes in quicker than ever.

Finally, The Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF), is taking the right procedures in suspending the tournament juts like major tournaments in the summer took the same measurements. Tournaments like the Tokio Olympics 2020, UEFA Champions League and Euro 2020 to just name a few are postponed with future dates in plan.
