A top tier player that earned his stripes with Rayados de Monterrey will leave the Mexican club team once his contract is up in the summer. A huge spot that La Pandilla will have to fill up once Jose Maria Basanta departs from the team.
The Argentinian defender Jose Maria Basanta has been a pivotable player since joining the Liga MX in 2008 and surely will be placed as one of the top defenders to ever wear La Pandilla jersey as he excelled for almost 10 years in Monterrey. Jose Maria Basanta, appeared on FOX Sports a few days ago and spoke over his future presence in the Liga MX and made it clear that once his contract is up in the summer he plans to leave the team and possibly retire in his home country, Argentina, to place the final marker in his career.
“I think the cycle ended here. I have given everything I had. The truth, from 2008 until now I have grown a lot as a person. The club teaches incredible values that remain with you, both as a person and professionally. I’m leaving everything. My idea, when I arrived, was for my name to remain in history, reflected in the club. Throughout these years, thanks to the group, we have achieved many objectives. I am leaving very happy, happy to have made a race here ”
At 36 years of age, it is understandable why Basanta will like to start thinking of retirement and will surely leave an impactful spot with the Regiomontano club team as he won many nine titles with the team in almost decade. Basanta’s resume speaks high volume as he won, three Liga MX titles, one Copa MX, four times CONCACAF Champions league, and one InterLiga, playing almost 380 games, scoring a well over 15 goals. Also most importantly being named and voted as of the top defender of the tournament in the Liga MX twice, once in the Apertura 2010 and the Clausura 2012.
Basanta also was included in the national team of Argentina in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as he had an outstanding performance where he had to fill in the gap for the sus
pended player, Marcos Rojo, and played tremendously against Belgium In the quarterfinal of the tournament. That earned him a trip to be part of the Italian team, Fiorentina for less than a year and returned once again to Los Rayados de Monterrey.
So observing the resume of Basanta we can surely say that he made an impact in the Liga MX and now will move on with his career if its either playing or possibly starting a new chapter in soccer as coaching or assisting in other ways.
In the meanwhile, it will be interesting to see who Rayados de Monterrey could bring the fill the spot missing in the backline. It has been rumored that the national player of Mexico, Hector Moreno who currently plays for the Qatar club team Al-Gharafa, could possibly make his way back to Mexico and he could surely fit in the system of Monterrey. Also, we are sure La Pandilla would not mind paying the international defender the salary he deserves.
