Clasico Capitalino Clash for Copa GNP Glory

Soccer is back, and with that, it brings back the great rivalries—El Clasico Capitalino featuring Pumas versus America in the Copa GNP for Mexico.

Pumas and America have always been know for their fierce rivalry. Each located just a few miles away from each other, their hatred has grown more and the years. This time we get to see that rivalry comes live when they face off in the Copa GNP. The game will take place at the Olimpico Universitario Tuesday, July 7th, at 9 CST Time.

Last time these two faced off, they gave a thrilling match that resulted in a 3-3 draw. What seemed that Pumas was going to take the three points in front of their crowd a miraculous 90th-minute goal from Henry Martin sealed the draw to avoid the Americanistas’ upset.

America made its Copa GNP debut on their side’s 2-0 win over Toluca. Pumas, on the other hand, faced Cruz Azul in a humiliating 4-1 defeat against the Cementeros. America with a draw or a win can comfortably secure their spot in the semifinal while Pumas must win if they want to have a chance at playing the semifinals.

This game, aside from the rivalry, is believed to bring newcomers to the league. The Copa GNP is a test for the youngsters to prove their worth against a top team. Bringing on the youngsters will sure help both sides in developing their teams for the future.

Once this game is set and done, America will face Cruz Azul while Pumas plays Toluca. Both matches will feature out to be entertaining, and even though it is a friendly tournament, it is an excellent opportunity to feel the rivalries within the field. This tournament is great for all involved teams since it can bring opportunities to those who don’t have as many minutes on the field. This tournament is an excellent way for the coaches to see who is fit and play well enough despite the halt on Mexican soccer.
