Since making his debut for Real Betis in Spain, the former Liga MX player of the year has had some trouble adapting to Europe, but his resurgence looks to be right around the corner.

In a struggling Real Betis team, many would be surprised that the usual mid-table club found themselves almost in the relegation zone before Wednesdays encounter against Osasuna. Osasuna sat in a comfortable 11th spot before the encounter. Guido Rodriguez and other Real Betis players have been the subject of a lot of criticisms and even to the point of fans outside the team’s stadium booing the player that once embodied what it meant to wear Club America colors.

Real Betis have struggled to find a winning rhythm this season and after the stoppage of play due to Covid-19, it looks as the team is in no better shape than it was earlier in the year. With high-quality players as defensive player Willian Carvalho, Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales, and Mexicans as Andres Guardado and Diego Lainez. The Real Betis team isn’t short talent, but they are short of confidence.

One player that always rose for the challenge in Liga Mx and has the heart of a warrior is Guido Rodriguez. The midfield star responded to that criticism aimed at him and his teammates and channeled that into a great performance. Scoring one goal at the beginning of the match and set the tone for what would become a win that Real Betis desperately needed.

After a ball was played out during a corner and played into the box Guido stayed by the second post and after successfully staying onside and losing his marker the Argentine rose up and finished the playoff with a rocket header that went towards the first post and made sure the Osasuna keeper couldn’t stop it.

Real Betis went on to win the game 3-1 for a needed win as the schedule gets tougher and tougher with Atletico Madrid on Saturday and Alaves on Wednesday. They currently need Guido to keep up his confidence not only defensively but going forward as they currently sit 13th on the table and want to finish this season with some respect before a new head coach comes in and takes over. Rumors of America’s Miguel Herrera and many others are in the conversation to coach the Spanish club. Only time will tell who will take the reigns of this underperforming club.
