The young defensive player made official news that he no longer would participate in the Liga MX due to landing a new club in the European continent where it could look promising for the ex-Santos player.
Although it has been a hectic and very odd last four months due to the ongoing pandemic of the COVID-19, no positive news has trended since then around the Liga MX until yesterday where the 21-year-old defensive winger Gerardo Arteaga was confirmed to be moving to the European continent.
Gerardo Arteaga stated that he will be joining the Belgium league for the next five years. Genk who ended in the 7th place position in the league standings and was just 26 points away from the leader will search to become a tougher team in the new season that will start on the 8th of August after the season was suspended due to the current pandemic that by now we all know of.
Arteaga will not be the only Mexican player to be part of the Belgium league at the moment. The midfielder, Omar Govea, 24-years-old, is currently with Zulte Waregem who as well has been a trending topic in recent years to be part of the national team of Mexico.
The left-footed defender has been a great player and undisputed starter for Santos since making his debut in the Liga MX in the Apertura 2016 under the tactics of Jose Manuel De La Torre and played a grand total of 107 games and scoring only one goal. Most importantly, Arteaga won a championship with Santos beating Toluca in the Clausura 2018 and has already played with the national team of Mexico since 2018. Although Arteaga, has not been a consistent starter for El TRI, that will surely change in the years to come now that he will develop to being a more versatile player in the next few years.
Overall this is good news for the Liga MX and hopefully, the following players like Jose Juan Macias, Carlos Rodriguez, and Cesar Montes could soon make a splash in the European continent!
