We take a look at one of the better matches for tomorrow that starts of this beautiful weekend of play for Liga MX.

Cruz Azul vs. Puebla

The first week for both Puebla and Cruz Azul went amazing, Puebla dominated Mazatlan at their home stadium and embarrassed them in the last 10 minutes when Mazatlan gave up. 4-1 ended up being the final score and a ton of cockroach memes later Puebla seemed ready to conquer the world by upsetting the former Monarca squad.

Cruz Azul took care of business rain, slate, hail, or shine, didn’t matter coach Robert SIboldi’s side was prepared and after what many thoughts was the best team of Clausura 2020 before it got suspended is still rolling. They don’t seem content with the GNP Cup that they won in the preseason over Chivas, and they look to continue by steamrolling current super leader Puebla. That’s right Puebla is the current super leader due to the margin of victory.

The last time these squads faced off was week 8 of Apertura 2019 and it ended in a stalemate 1-1. A lot has changed since then.

Expect Cruz Azul to come out on top, Puebla’s big margin of victory is misleading. They barely had 34% of ball possession and only had 7 shots compared to Mazatlan’s 18 shots. Liga MX is a very counter-attacking league and that’s something that Cruz Azul loves to do on the break and having Jonathan Rodriguez as their striker makes them such a huge threat they way the Uruguayan can bang goals in. Add on players that can hit a pass from anywhere on the field as Orbelin Pineda, as well as Luis Romo and that’s trouble looming for Puebla.

Expect Cruz Azul to dominate and if they had 22 shots on Santos’s pretty good defense then just imagine what they will do to this Puebla backline. Puebla isn’t alone though, keeper Nicolas Vikonis is probably a top 5 keeper in Liga MX and for a lot fo that Mazatlan game it was a tied or one-score game and he kept the likes of Mazatlan forwards out of the back of his net the whole game, except that Cesar Huerta goal, that goal was amazing and there isn’t anything even the most gifted keeper could do about that.

The game should be an interesting one and don’t count Puebla out too quickly, but Cruz Azul should take care of business though and win 3-1. The schedule only gets tougher for Puebla with Chivas and Tigres coming up in the newt two weeks. Although, at this rate, Chivas will have nobody to play this time next week due to COVID-19. Cruz Azul takes on Leon next week, so this game is a much needed 3 points for both sides as their schedules get tougher.
