Mazatlan captured their first win, but that didn’t stop them from still pursuing more firepower upfront.

Mazatlan won 2-1 against a lowly Toluca side. Thanks to a brace by Fernando Aristeguieta. Giving them their first win ever as a club. A couple of weeks before that win though we had heard that Camilo Sanvezzo was out at Xolos de Tijuana.

The circumstances around the player leaving the team are still murky, but it might have to do with the fact that Xolos de Tijuana raided Queretaro’s team, many of those players that went to Xolos were offensively minded players as Jordi Cortizo and maybe Camilo Sanvezzo wasn’t in the team’s future plans. Not to mention his decline also, only having 6 goals in 20 games for Xolos since being traded for Fabian Castillo in 2019.

Mazatlan F.C took to Twitter to introduce the team’s new striker saying:

"“The light of the Lighthouse has guided you to the Pearl of the Pacific, you are already part of the purple crew, @camilosanvezzo, Snatching your old colors. Mazatlán FC is your new home.”"

Camilo Sanvezzo still has a lot of gas left in the tank on top of his great accomplishments. Accomplishments as being Queretaro’s top goal scorer of all time with 67 goals. 77 Liga MX goals in total, Golden Boot for MLS in 2013, goal-scoring champ in Liga MX in 2014. As he has gotten older he has sustained injuries like a bad knee injury that kept him out of the 2015 Liga MX season.

That being said though, Mazatlan needs help upfront. Through three games only scoring 4 goals. After being decimated by Puebla in week 1 with 4 goals and seeing the weaknesses at defense, a veteran striker is needed to try to keep up with teams that come in with way more firepower than them.

Will Camilo Sanvezzo do well at Mazatlan F.C?
