The Guard1anes 2020 tournament has surprised many in the first few games of the Liga MX, where many teams continue to march up in the league standings.
Just how we all expected it the Liga MX continues to give us, (the fans) a lot to talk about as many results concluded at the end of the Jornada 5 of the Guand1anes 2020 tournament. Some are good others can be bad depends on what side of the fence you are standing on. Here is what stood out the most and certainly will be talked about in the next few days before the Jornada 6 starts.
Queretaro 4-1 America
First of all what in the world happened in this game? Is Queretaro going to be the “Cinderella team” of this tournament, after beating Cruz Azul 1-0 In the recent Jornada 4 and now with this result, how far can they go? Although this was America’s first loss of the tournament, it has caused the media and fans into a frenzy because, in reality, America is a better team overall than Los Gallos Blancos de Queretaro after half of their squad is different compared to what they had in the Clausura 2020. But regardless, you have to give credit when credit is due and Queretaro certainly deserves it, after two goals and an assist from the Uruguayan Hugo Silveira, and one each from Daniel Cervantes and Omar Islas, Queretaro comfortably captured their second win of the tournament earning them a total of 7 points, standing in the 7th place position in the league standings. While America only goal scored was from Sebastian Cordova, and playing with 10 men right before halftime, Las Aguilas gave away the game and it was stated that Piojo Herrera, still struggles at times to adjust his lineup with one man less on the field.
Truthfully, it’s too early to point fingers and make quick decisions on what could happen next for both teams as the tournament just started. In the meantime, America will search to regain their composure as they will welcome Rayados de Monterrey on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at home at the Estadio Azteca while Queretaro will play in the same date as the visiting team facing Atlas where they could possibly leave the Estado Jalisco with a third consecutive win.
Chivas 2-1 Atletico San Luis
Why are we mentioning this game well, it was the debut of “Rey Midas” in the bench coaching Chivas, capturing their second consecutive win of the tournament and for any coach to debut with a win in their first game, it definitely clears the smoke and brings down the stress level to literally everyone around the team including the fans. With a domination of 59% throughout the game, indeed it was clear that Chivas was the better team at the end of the game with the scores coming from Isaac Brizuela and Cristian Calderon, El Rebano Sagrado reached a total of 7 points and currently in the playoff picture if the tournament would end today.
As for San Luis with the second loss so far they are sitting with 5 points and just barely in the playoff picture as they will face Cruz Azul on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at home while Chivas will play on the same date versus Toluca as the visiting team.
Leon 2-1 Tijuana
It seems that Leon continues the same pattern as they have in the recent tournaments by starting strong and showing their resilience against any team they face as they captured their third win at home beating tactically 2-1 to Xolos de Tijuana. With a goal each from Jean Meneses and Emmanuel Gigliotti for Leon and with one goal from Brayan Angulo for Xolos, for the final game of the Jornada 5, it demonstrated a clear picture that Leon who stands with 10 points just like America and Cruz Azul, is the team to possibly fear throughout the next few weeks.
As for Xolos and Pablo Guede, something needs to happen soon because, with all the new addition of players being brought in, the team can not continue to progress like this in the Guard1anes 2020 tournament as they stand in the second to last place with only 4 points. Is it time to panic, maybe, but not just yet because Guede is a brilliant tactician as we saw with Monarcas Morelia not too long ago, so hopefully a spark of fire can happen as they will face Puebla at home on Sunday, August 23, 2020, while Leon will visit FC Juarez.
Overall, a tricky and surprising ending of the Jornada 5, as we can slowly start to see which teams will make a big splash in the next few weeks and which teams will be sought out as the less competitive in the Liga MX
