Alexei Domínguez, 20, has become the latest name from the Mexico U-20 squad to have attracted interest from Europe, with Ajax Amsterdam keeping tabs on the winger.

Pachuca's right-sided forward has one goal to his name in seven appearances in the Liga MX this season, but has recorded a goal against Brazil in Mexico's opening game of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, before assisting Gilberto Mora in the 2-2 draw with Spain.

Joining the growing list of players from Mexico's youth team to be wanted in Europe, Domínguez has been applauded by the Dutch giants for his development so far this season, with the Pachuca President, Armando Martínez, stating:

"Ajax has expressed an interest and really like the development he has had."

A move from Pachuca to Amsterdam remains a strong possibility, following the renewal of the development partnership between the two clubs, a deal completed earlier this year, which is expected to facilitate regular transfers from Mexico to the Netherlands.

The four-time UEFA Champions League winners have built a strong connection with Mexican clubs after moves to take Edson Álvarez from Club América in 2019 and Jorge Sánchez's move a year later from Las Águilas.

Now, Ajax set their sights on a Pachuca double of Elías Montiel and Alexei Domínguez, two players that are expected to have big careers for club and country, with the pair set to challenge for a spot in the Mexican 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

The news comes after Mexico's U-20 team reached the World Cup quarter-finals, defeating hosts Chile in the first knockout round to set up a meeting with Argentina.

Their run in the competition has kickstarted a number of rumours involving Domínguez's teammates with a move to Europe.

Gilberto Mora’s potential move to Barcelona, Manchester United, or Liverpool remains one of the most exciting stories for Mexican fans, while Bayer Leverkusen’s reported interest in Montiel hints that a potential European transfer battle could be on the horizon, with several clubs also linked to central defender Diego Ochoa.
