Toluca became the first side to reach the Liga MX Clausura final thanks to a dominant second leg display against Tigres.
The sides were deadlocked after the first 90 minutes, as two goals in the first half told the story of the game. If the second leg followed the same fate, Toluca's first-placed league finish would send them through to the final over Guido Pizarro's side.
Meeting at the Estadio Nemesio Diez, the second meeting in three days was only heading in one direction. Alexis Vega got the show on the road before doubling his tally for the day to take his season record up to 15. Either side of the goals from Vegas, who continues to put his name forward for the league's Player of the Season award, Ivan Lopez scored a second for Toluca, all but ensuring their passage to the ultimate final.
Tigres looked toothless as they bowed out of a second semi-final in the space of a month, following their Concacaf Champions Cup exit to Cruz Azul.
As for Toluca, they are chasing a first league title since 2010. Coming close in 2012, 2018 and 2022, fans have endured three difficult league final defeats, hoping that the fourth will bring a change of fortune.
