Javier Aguirre has won two of his opening four matches with El Trí, including an impressive 2-0 win over the United States last week, ending a five-year curse.

Other games since the former Mallorca manager took charge saw Mexico defeat New Zealand before draws against Canada and Valencia.

Now, they return to CONCACAF Nations League action, where they finished as runner's up earlier this year. Losing 2-0 to the United States, El Trí is seeking revenge by winning a trophy that evades them. Since its inauguration in 2020, the United States has won all three editions, with Mexico finishing in second place twice whilst Canada suffered the same fate during the 2023 version of the event.

Mexico has been drawn to face Honduras who they met at the same stage last year with El Trí scraping through in dramatic fashion. The first leg took place at the Estadio José de la Paz in Tegucigalpa as the Hondurians took a shock lead into the second leg as Santos Laguna forward Anthony Lozano and Bryan Rochez scored the all-important goals.

Returning to the Estadio Azteca for the second leg, Luís Chavez squeezed home a free kick before half-time to give fans a sense of hope before Edson Álvarez stepped up to the occasion deep into added time of the second half to force extra time to decide the fate of the two nations. With the winner sealing qualification for the Copa América, the tie went to a penalty shootout where Rochez went from hero to villain by failing to convert as Andy Nájar also was unable to beat Luís Malagon in the Mexico net.

Mexico comes into the game with a four-game unbeaten streak under the new manager Javier Aguirre. Replacing Jaime Lozano after the Copa América, Aguirre is now in his third spell as Mexico's head coach, assisted by Mexican legend Rafa Marqúez. The pair have orchestrated a good start for El Trí but will face a first real test against Honduras, who themselves will be after revenge for the dramatic manner in which they bowed out of the competition last year.

The full set of matches are:

Jamaica vs United States
Costa Rica vs Panama

Mexico vs Honduras

The first game will take place on Thursday 14th November in the Honduran capital before the return leg at the Estadio Nemesio Díez, Toluca, since the Estadio Azteca remains under construction ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
