América Close to Confirming Juan Manuel Sanabria Deal
By Sam Plummer
Rising through the ranks at Nacional in Uruguay, Sanabria switched to Atletico Madrid at the age of 18. Expected to be one of many famous Uruguayan exports, the midfielder signed for the Spanish club for €1.2 million in 2018.
After failing to break into the first team in Madrid, Sanabria spent the second half of the 2020/21 season with Real Zaragoza in the Segunda Division.
Once his loan spell was complete with Zaragoza, Sanabria went looking for a new opportunity and signed a two-year loan deal with Atlético San Luis for the 2021 Apertura. Impressing the hierarchy in Potosí, Sanabria's loan move was turned permanent in 2023 as the club rose up the league where they reached the 2023 Apertura semi final, before crashing out to eventual winners Club América, where he is soon to be moving to.
If the move is to be completed, Sanabria will provide options both in the middle of the park and at left back who he would be likely to battle for the position with Cristian Calderon, who started both of the semi final and final matches as América picked up their 15th Liga MX title.
Aged only 24, the versatile midfielder is likely to provide options for Andre Jardine over the coming years as the club looks to build on its Apertura and Clausura winning campaign.
Details of the move are currently undisclosed, but we are expecting to know much more once the Uruguayan signs on the dotted line.
