The United States could have a new American team. Well, kind of.

Club América could play in the United States soon according to an ESPN report. What would this mean for the club and their future in Liga MX? It's actually not like that at all.

Their home of Estadio Azteca is undergoing renovations. They are hosting the world cup soon and need to be ready down the road. The World Cup will be played there in 2026.

In the meantime, they are in the middle of trying to win another Liga MX title. They are in the Liga MX Clausura 2024 finale against second place Cuz Azul where they are tied at one goal apiece. Game two finishes it up Sunday night. That game will be held at this very same Estadio Azteca, however next season their home games will be at Cruz Azul's stadium Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes aside from any other arrangements can be made such as playing in the United States.

This is very exciting speculation. Could you imagine being able to see a great match near your home town? Well, I guess that will already be achieved when Manchester City and Chelsea are set to play on August 3rd according to Columbus Crew's site. But that game will only be a friendly match and not count towards league play; the games Club América would play would count as home games and be part of their Liga MX schedule. So the possibility of a meaningful foreign game in Columbus or other locations that would probably include New York, Miami, and Los Angeles exists.
