Rodrigo Huescas has been a standout talent rising through Cruz Azul’s academy ranks. Impressive performances and unwavering dedication have marked his journey from a promising youth player to a first-team regular.
Huescas, born in Mexico City, joined Cruz Azul's youth system at a young age. His talent was evident early on, and he quickly became a key player for the youth teams. Now at the age of 20, he has been known for his versatility and intelligence on the field, Huescas seamlessly transitioned through various age groups, consistently proving his worth.
Huescas made his debut for Cruz Azul's senior team during the 2021/22 season. His speed, technical ability, and vision quickly earned him a regular spot in the lineup. The 2023/24 season was particularly notable for Huescas, where he featured in 26 matches, showcasing his ability to play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder. He scored three goals and provided five assists, highlighting his impact on the team. His performances with Azul earned him a national debut before the Copa América, playing in the 1-0 win over Bolivia before not being selected for the final squad.
Huescas' last appearance for Cruz Azul came this past weekend against Mazatlán, where he played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory. This match marked the end of his tenure with the club as he prepares for a significant move to FC Copenhagen.
As reported by RÉCORD, the transfer to FC Copenhagen involves a fee of $2 million, with Huescas signing a four-year contract. The move is seen as a stepping stone for the young talent to showcase his skills on a bigger stage in European football. As for Cruz Azul, they announced the signing of Ajax defender Jorge Sánchez last week, who will naturally replace the 20-year-old.
Huescas is known for his dynamic playing style. He combines pace with excellent dribbling skills, making him a constant threat on the wings. His ability to cut inside and create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates makes him a versatile and valuable asset.
FC Copenhagen had a strong season last year, finishing second in the Danish Superliga and securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League. For the upcoming season, Huescas can expect to compete at a high level, both domestically and in Europe. His addition to the squad is anticipated to bolster their attacking options and provide the team with a fresh, youthful dynamic.
