ESPN confirmed that Mexico and the United States will meet in Guadalajara at the home of Chivas, the Estadio Akron on Tuesday 15th October.
The last time these two met in Mexico was 12 years ago when the U.S. won 1-0, thanks to a Michael Orozco winner.
First played in 1934, the rivalry has historically favoured Mexico. FIFA records show that there have been 77 official matches, Mexico has won 36 times, the United States 24, and 17 matches have ended in a draw. In recent times, the United States has been on a resurgence having won the last seven encounters, stretching back to the 2022 CONCACAF Nations League Final, which Mexico won 3-2.
The two sides went head-to-head in March for the most recent edition of the Nations League, but goals from Gio Reyna and Tyler Adams handed the U.S. the victory, going on to win the title.
Both sides faced managerial changes this summer after disappointing Copa América campaigns. Mexico failed to advance from a group containing Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica whilst the United States faced the same fate in a group involving Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia.
El Trí has replaced Jaime Lozano with Javier Aguirre, who returns for his third tenure as the national head coach. Meanwhile, the U.S. is set to announce former Chelsea, Tottenham, and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino as Gregg Berhalter's successor, with this match likely being his debut at the helm.
In the September international break, both teams will face New Zealand and their north american rivals Canada.
