Juárez Climbs Standings to end 2024 Clausura
Juárez had a dismal Apertura then came up big to end the Clausura.
According to FC Tables this club finished fifteenth in the Apertura and then moved up to twelvth in the Clausura. Lots of effort down the stretch worked out for FC Juárez this year even though they fell short of extra games.
This season they were able to qualify as a team that would not have been relegated had there not been a relegation freeze in Mexico. In Mexican soccer there is not relegation while the teams in the upper levels of the league settle their finances. If enough of the disbanded teams such as Veracruz return or there shows to be other lower clubs with financial strength then relegation and promotion may resume.
Juárez started their hot stretch in matchday eleven. They would go four two and two in their last eight contests. This includes their matchday seven four to three win over Puebla that was actually played between matches twelve and thirteen.
Just looking at their season as a whole really shows what they accomplished. Notice that Juárez really had a way with drawing red cards and not receiving them; they drew six red cards and received zero during the 2024 Clausura campaign. Here are their games in order of matchday sequence.
1. Pumas UNAM 1-0 over Juárez
Pumas puts a goal across from Salvio in minute sixty nine in the second half. Later, Natan of Pumas would acquire a red card but it would not prove consequential.
2. Juárez 0-0 with Cruz Azul
Well that did not prove much. A full ninety was played to a tie.
3. Atlas 2-1 over Juárez
Unlike in the season, Atlas gets to celebrate a bit more here. They would become one of the teams Juárez would jostle past by the end of the Clausura.
4. Club América 2-0 over Juárez
Club América toppled Juárez two to zip on their way to their second straight Liga MX crown.
5. Juárez 2-2 with Necaxa
A tie with ninth place Necaxa was a decent result for Juárez. This was achieved despite a late goal from Édgar Méndez of Necaxa.
6. Chivas de Guadalajara 2-1 over Juárez
A two goal lead for Chivas looked unsurmountable. But a late Guadalajara red card shook things up. The ensuing penalty kick from Zaldívar was successful. A tie could still not be achieved as that was the final score.
7. Juárez 4-3 over Puebla
Juárez was too much for last place Puebla. Manuel Velasquez was frustrated in this one just as much as versus América. Sansores scored just before stoppage time. That would end the scoring in the match.
8. Monterrey 3-0 over Juárez
Monterrey soccer was just too productive in this one. They got to celebrate goals three times against Juárez.
9. Tigres UANL 1-0 over Juárez
Only one goal was required for Tigres UANL to get this win.
10. Pachuca 3-2 over Juárez
While Pachuca did not prevail in the Liga MX Clausura they won the CONCACAF Champions Cup instead. Their three to two victory over Juárez might have helped practice and morale but it did not count towards that title. On the bright side for Juárez, two goals against a champion is not bad.
11. Juárez 1-1 with Toluca
Toluca taunts with the best of them but they are not the the best at winning. Neither team prevailed in this one to one draws.
12. Querétero 1-0 over Juárez
Juárez did not get to do the baby celebration in this one. Querétero went on to blank them one to nil.
13. Juárez 2-1 over Santos Laguna
Two Juárez goals were enough to overcome a single Santos Laguna goal. Juárez walked away with three points for this match.
14. Juárez 3-2 over San Luis
San Luis put up quite a fight. Juárez scored one more goal in route to the three to two victory.
15. Tijuana 1-0 over Juárez
Of course the loss down the stretch would come. But did anybody expect it to be sixteenth place Club Tijuana that would take down FC Juárez?
16. Juárez 2-0 over Mazatlán
Mazatlán could not tackle the challenge Juárez presented when they were on a roll down the stretch of the Clausura. Two goals were enough to blank Mazatlán
17. Juárez 1-1 with León
Juárez should have taken this one. After Edson scored Calvo botched it on defense puting one across for the opposing León squad. A late red card on León was overcome as they still played to a draw.
18. Clausura 2024 tournament
Juárez finished eight points behind Querétero for the last spot. Juárez did not qualify for the tournament.
Next up for Juárez is the Leagues Cup. They will face two MLS clubs in FC Dallas and St. Louis. Before the end of July, there is a friendly match verses Eintracht Frankfurt.
