Mexico Soccer Takes Second in CONCACAF
According to The Athletic Mexico wrapped up Nations League play losing 2-0 to team USA. This comes after a 3-0 Semifinal win over Panama.
Mexico played quite well throughout the CONCACAF Nations League tournament but it just was not enough to overtake USA in the final.
In the Semifinal Mexico beat Panama 3-0. This comes off of goals from Elvarez, Pineda and Quiñonez. The scoring began in minute forty just before half. The second goal followed the first right before half. The final score was put in the net in minute sixty seven.
The Mexican National Team failed to score against USA in the finale. Team USA scored twice: once in minute forty five from Adams and then from Reyna in the sixty third minute of play.
Team Mexico will play three friendlies in the coming weeks leading up to Copa América play. Those friendlies will come against Bolivia, Uruguay and Brazil.
Copa América should be a blast. Mexico plays in a group with opportunities against Jamaica, Venezuela and Ecuador. Those games will begin for Mexico with Jamaica on June 22.
Mexico is most likely viewed as the runner up in the group. The thought is that they can outplay and overtake two of their opponents but will likely fall to the third. That tougher opponent looks to be Venezuela. La Vinotinto as they are called comes off a scoreless tie against Guatemala
Copa América is a four group sixteen team tournament this year. It will feature challengers outside of group play in Argentina, the United States and Brazil to name a few. It should be interesting to see who wins.
