Querétaro Faces Uphill Climb

Querétaro is the answer to every question about which team is the worst in Liga MX. Okay, maybe that's an overstatement, but they are level on points with FC Juárez and Club León at the foot of the table.

Los Gallos needed a point or three to get things going, and according to Sofascore, history would show this is just more of the same. This is what we are used to seeing from this club; when will it change? Despite picking up a 1-1 draw against Pachuca and a most recent 1-0 surprise victory against Tigres, when will the real progress come?

Over halfway through the Apertura calendar, Querétaro has achieved one win, one draw and seven defeats so far.

In the first six matches, Querétaro scored three goals but had leaked a staggering 15. A cause for concern amongst supporters as their goal difference was a shocking -12.

Their first game was a 2-1 loss to Club Tijuana. They were tied until the 68th minute, but they were never able to take the lead in the game.

Game two was a loss to Club América. It is no big deal here, but you still never want to lose, and you cannot afford to lose every game against better competition. This would be a 3-1 loss but conceded a goal within the first two minutes.

The third game was a 2-0 loss to Chivas. Despite battling hard, matching Chivas for chances on goal, they were unable to break past Raúl Rangel in the Chivas net.

Game four was a loss to Monterrey. They scored in this one. What's wrong with that? Well, nothing is wrong with scoring but the goal came in the 88th minute while 2-0 down. Provided nothing more than a consolation goal. Alas, it was not meant to be as this would be the final goal of another loss.

Game five was ugly. Coming after two narrow and close games in the Leagues Cup, one would have not expected this. On the road to San Luís, the club were on the end of a 4-0 drumming, whilst Jose María Canale received a red card late in the game.

Matchday six was a 2-0 loss to Cruz Azul. After six league matches, Querétaro did not even lead for a single second until this point.

Game seven, would this be it? Well, it would be the breaking point for something. Ayrton Preciado would give them their first lead in a game as they scored late in the first half. But an early second-half red card would come back to bite them late. They would fall to a tie with Pachuca.

Moving on, they faced a midtable Puebla side, coming off the back of an impressive 1-0 victory against reigning champions Club América. However, Querétaro would return to a familiar way with another loss. The 2-1 loss saw the club suffer a sixth league defeat in seven games.

Game nine they would finally win in a match against Tigres UANL of all teams. A 1-0 shock victory against a side who had not lost a single game all season means that they jump up to four points to match the records of FC Juárez and Club León.
