Real Madrid won the Intercontinental Cup with a 3-0 victory against the Liga MX side.

Pachuca reached the final with wins over Botafogo and Al Ahly, but were unable to go one step further to beat the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners.

Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring after Vinícius Jr rounded the goalkeeper and selflessly set up the Frenchman for an easy finish.

Los Blancos doubled their lead after halftime with an excellent solo run from Rodrigo who curled his effort to beat the diving Carlos Moreno.

The game was already beyond Pachuca's reach when Real Madrid were awarded a penalty. Lucas Vázquez was brought down by Oussama Idrissi's outstretched foot, and after a VAR review, the decision was upheld, confirming the foul as deserving of a spot-kick for the Madridistas.

Pachuca suffered defeat at the final hurdle but fans will be excited about the rising star that is Elias Montiel. The 19-year-old midfielder started all three games whilst earning the Man of the Match award for the penalty shootout victory against Al Ahly and even claimed the Third Best Player of the Tournament award, only beaten by Federico Valverde and Vinicius Jr.

The match concludes action for Pachuca in 2024 as they now turn their attention to the 2025 Liga MX Clausura, which begins in January.
