Every league has its' greatest players and Liga MX has produced lots of talent over the years. Here are the top 10 greatest Liga MX players.

Liga MX has had many stars throughout the years. Some players spent their entire careers in the Liga MX, but others went on to other leagues and became even bigger players. Here's a look at the top 10 greatest Liga MX players.

10. Jorge Campos

Jorge Campos played as a goalkeeper but occasionally ventured to play as a makeshift striker when needed. In his time, he scored six goals in Liga MX and one goal in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Most of his time was spent with Pumas, but he also enjoyed stints with the LA Galaxy, CF Atalante, and Puebla among other clubs.

Campos never felt the need to be confined to the penalty area and was often outside the box. He could be described as a sweeper-keeper with a bit of flare. Campos was risky on the ball, giving fans a treat if his risk paid off. His style will always be remembered in Liga MX.

9. Andre-Pierre Gignac

Andre-Pierre Gignac currently plays for Tigres and is certain to become a club legend for the Liga MX side. The Frenchman is a sensational goalscorer, and he is the leading scorer for Tigres of all time.

In 10 seasons with Tigres, Gignac has scored 163 goals, securing 20 or more goals in five of those seasons. His ability to find the back of the net is stunning, with his goals ranging from tap-ins to screamers. At 39, Gignac remains a great player for Tigres with seven goals for the club in the 2024/25 season.

8. Jared Borgetti

Jared Borgetti is another prolific forward to come out of Liga MX. During his time with Santos Laguna, Borgetti scored an overwhelming 183 goals in 288 matches.

Borgetti also had 38 yellow cards and 3 red cards with Santos Laguna, proving that he was the ultimate player who never backed down from a challenge. Borgetti played for 10 other clubs, but none of his contributions were as crucial as they were to Santos.

Borgetti won the Mexican Clausura and Mexican Apertura titles with Santos, and he was also a two-time leading goalscorer in the Primera División Invierno and Primera Division Verano.

7. José Cardozo

One of Liga MX's most prolific goalscorers, José Cardozo is Toluca's all-time leading goalscorer with 229 goals in 302 games. Cardozo is also the second-highest goalscorer in Paraguay's history with 27 international goals.

Cardozo was the top scorer in Liga MX four times during his career. He also won Liga MX four times with Toluca and won the CONCACAF Champions Cup with Toluca in 2003.

6. Hugo Ayala

Hugo Ayala is one of the greatest center-backs in Liga MX history. The defender played 462 games for Tigres, which is an incredible statistic in itself. He also scored nine goals as a center- back.

Ayala received 51 yellow cards with Tigres and two red cards. He was confident in his defensive abilities and became a huge presence at the back for Tigres. He helped secure 10 trophies for Tigres while he was with the club, including five Liga MX titles.

5. Alfredo Tena

Alfredo Tena is another Liga MX defender with a great career. He became known as Capitán Furia, which means Captain Fury. This nickname came for his attitude on the field when confronting his own teams' players and opposing teams' players.

Tena mainly played as a center-back for Club América, where he excelled on the field, earning him the captain's armband for multiple seasons. Tena earned multiple titles with Club América, including six league titles, along with various cup trophies. The defender made over 600 appearances for Club América.

4. Pável Pardo

Pável Pardo served as a faithful defensive midfielder for Club América. The Mexican international played in almost 400 matches for América and scored 32 goals during that time. He also assisted on 27 more goals, which shows his influence on the ball.

Pardo picked up over 100 yellow cards with América, as he established himself with his physicality on the field. Pardo won three trophies with América and also won two Gold Cups and the Confederations Cup with Mexico. Pardo played in Germany for Stuttgart, which saw him pick up two more trophies for his career.

3. Carlos Hermosillo

Carlos Hermosillo is one of Cruz Azul's best players ever. He remains the club's highest goalscorer with 198 goals. He is also the second-highest goalscorer in Liga MX with 294 goals throughout his career in the league. Hermosillo also won a championship with Cruz Azul.

Hermosillo started his career with Club América, where he played in 162 games and scored 73 goals, before the first transfer of his career. The forward played for eight different clubs during his career and proved to be successful with all of them.

The forward sparked an incident in 1986, while he was with América, with Guadalajara's Fernando Quirtarte that will forever highlight the intensity of Liga MX. Hermosillo was suspended for 12 games after the incident, which grew to add players and coaches from both sides.

2. Alberto García Aspe

Aspe played for multiple top clubs in Liga MX. He represented Pumas, Puebla, América, and Club Necaxa. The midfielder was known for his technical skills on the ball and was also a good goalscorer.

Aspe won two Liga MX titles and played for the Mexican National Team. Thanks to his technical abilities, Aspe was often looked to to help other midfielders. He played in three World Cups with Mexico and had over 100 appearances for the national team.

1. Cabinho

Perhaps the best player in Liga MX history is the Brazilian Cabinho. The forward still holds the record for the most goals scored in Liga MX with a whopping 312 goals.

Cabinho played for Tigres, Club León, Atlante, and Pumas. Each team saw their fair share of goals scored while Cabinho was under contract with each. The Brazilian won eight awards for being the league's top scorer, seven of which came consecutively between 1975 and 1982.

Canbinho also played for several Brazilian sides, but he really made his name in Liga MX. He scored 151 goals for Pumas, which was his highest tally at a single club.
