Santos were looking bright heading into Apertura 2020 after a canceled Clausura 2020 where they didn’t have the best start, they looked to restart on the right foot. Unfortunately, Santos star forward Brian Lozano didn’t.

Santos Laguna has been mainly quieting this offseason other than Jonathan Orozco heading to Xolos de Tijuana for Xolos Goalkeeper Gibran Lajud, the Northern Mexican club has mainly stuck to itself. The club received a huge blow though when star forward Brian Lozano picked up a bad injury in practice.

After a horrendous start to preseason with 8 players reporting back to camp with COVID-19, the Mexican club was the trigger to what eventually became the end of Clausura 2020 due to their players being so affected by COVID-19. The team looked forward to the future as any other Liga MX club (unless you are Morelia or Queretaro).

With preseason being in full swing and players finally getting back to work and in the gym. After so many thought the year 2020 couldn’t get any worse for Santos Laguna the worst was yet to come. Santos announced two days ago that Brian Lozano has fractured his Tibia and Fibula in a practicing accident. With players getting back to running and more contact drills after the long break of Quarantining this is unfortunate but understandable. This barring any miracles should take almost half a year to recover from, but these injuries affect everyone differently, so we will see how this injury plays out

He posted on his Twitter: “Thank you all for your show of affection at this difficult time, one more blow that life gives me but you will see me come back stronger than before and with the support of everyone and my family who is always there !! The operation went more than well”

Lozano has had breakout seasons with Santos Laguna and was part of the machine, which was Santos offense, along with Argentine Julio Furch they made a dangerous duo going forward with Furch’s hold up play and Lozano’s quick and agile feet. Since Lozano was bought from America back in 2017, he has contributed 14 goals to Santos along with numerous assists becoming crucial to their attack.
