Cruz Azul began the Copa por Mexico tournament in the right direction by beating Pumas UNAM 4-1 on Saturday night but there was one player in particular that stood out that we must keep an eye on.

The Copa por Mexico began a few days ago and the most notable detail throughout the first few games was that a vast majority of young players were granted minutes on the field to demonstrate their abilities. Probably, one of the biggest upside of the tournament as compared to the regular Apertura and Clausura tournaments, really the majority of young players are not given the opportunity or trust to play on the field. Cruz Azul has granted one lately though, a great opportunity.

That one player that stood out the most this past weekend was in the match between Cruz Azul versus Pumas was the 22-year-old central defensive player, Josue Reyes who scored two goals in the 4-1 victory for La Maquina. Reyes filled in the gap for the two absent defensive players, Julio Domínguez and Igor Lichnovsky, which certainly the 22-year-old filled played his role up to par!

With two goals in just 45 minutes of play under Reyes’s name in the first game of tournament certainly, the defensive player confidence with coach Robert Dante Siboldi will continue to grow as the trust goes back to the start of this year throughout the Clausura 2020. Although Reyes was not visible on the field throughout the Clausura 2020,.

Cruz Azul coach Siboldi still had the young defensive player with the first team where in nine games being part of the first team, only one game Reyes was able to be on the field with only less than 15 minutes to play in his debut versus Xolos de Tijuana in the match, the defensive player still demonstrated that he is capable to dispute for a starting position.

Hopefully, as the Copa por Mexico continues, Reyes is still granted more minutes as the central defensive player looks promising for La Maquina.
