With just less than three days, the Liga MX returns. The Guard1anes tournament, called in honor of those essential workers who put their lives on the line for our well-being.

The Guard1anes tournament kicks off with Thursday, July 23rd, with Atletico San Luis hosting Juarez. Nonetheless, it’ll kick off with three must-watch games. These will be the highlight of week one.

We start with Chivas hosting Leon, at the Akron Stadium in an action-packed game that will surely bring out the best of the two teams. Both will be looking for the three points that can get them a good lead in the general standings. From Chivas, the person to watch will be none other than Jose Macias. The youngster has made a significant impact on Mexican soccer and will seek out to continue his excellent performances. On the visiting side, we have Ecuadorian sensation Ángel Mena, who never fails to put on great performances regardless of the team he’s facing. A threat in Leon’s attack, he is someone to watch over.

Following Chivas versus Leon’s match, we fly down to Mexico City, where Cruz Azul hosts Santos Laguna with their newly-named captain Julio Cesar Furch leading their attack. For the Maquina Cementera, the Uruguayan Jonathan Rodriguez leads the attack. The last time these two teams met was in late January, and Cruz Azul took the upper hand in a 3-0 victory. Santos will most likely look to overcome that lousy game and look for the three points. Nevertheless, this will be a game worth watching. The Cruz Azul and Santos fixture will bring goals noting that their past encounters dating back ten years have always been a goal.

To end the weekend set of fixtures in week one, Monterrey host Los Diablos Rojos de Toluca. Monterrey hadn’t been for COVID-19 would’ve probably continued their winless streak. Five ties and five losses was a poor performance from 2019 Apertura Champions. Facing Toluca at home and achieving a win could boost their morale and make them a threat to this tournament. Toluca also has had their fair share of disappointments from the last Clausura.

Finally, after many days because I lost count, Liga MX returns. What a way to return with great games across the board, notably these games are the top three must-watch games. Some notable mentions include Necaxa hosting Tigres, Mazatlán’s debut versus Puebla, and Pachuca versus America.
