FIFA's The Best awards continue to recognize Mexican football after nominating Javier Aguirre for Best Coach of the Year last week.
FIFA takes a look at some of the best goals scored this year around the world and has nominated Atlas player Carlos Orrantia for a goal he scored in the 2025 Clausura.
The Mexican defender only scored one goal this year for Atlas, and it was on April 16, 2025, against Querétaro away from home. His goal was the opener for Atlas, where they defeated Querétaro 2-1 away from home at the Estadio Corregidora.
In the 37th minute of that match, Orrantia scored an incredible goal that showed his amazing ball control and placed the ball into the top corner.
This goal makes history by being nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award. He becomes the first Mexican player to be nominated for this award in 11 years, after Marco Fabián was nominated for a goal for Cruz Azul against Puebla in 2014.

Other goals nominated for FIFA Puskas Award
Carlos Orrantia's goal for Atlas against Querétaro is one of 11 goals nominated for the 2025 FIFA Puskas Award. Among the top names nominated for this award are FC Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, Arsenal's Declan Rice, and Seattle Sounders' Pedro De La Vega.
Fans can vote for their favorite goal out of the nominations, and the winner will be announced at the 2025 FIFA The Best awards.

Carlos Orrantia's only goal for Atlas since joining the club earlier this year has made history for Liga MX and Mexican football.
