The Mexican National Team continue to look for competitive friendly matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Many reports suggested that Mexico is looking for a European national team just months before the World Cup starts.
Mexico are looking to make a special friendly match for the reopening of the Estadio Azteca, which is set to be in March 2026.
Fox Sports MX reported that Mexico is planning to have the Portugal national team for the reopening match of the Estadio Azteca in March.
Alejandro Orvañanos from Claro Sports reports that the match between Mexico and Portugal at the Estadio Azteca is confirmed and ready to be announced soon. If official, it would be Cristiano Ronaldo's first time playing in Mexico.

Portugal Have Yet Qualified for 2026 World Cup
Despite the appealing friendly match against the Portuguese national team, Cristiano Ronaldo and co. have yet to qualify for the World Cup. Their first World Cup qualifiers will be in the September international break when they take on Armenia.
Portugal is in Group F with Armenia, Hungary, and Ireland. The team that finishes first in the group will automatically qualify for the World Cup.
Portugal will be playing six matches to qualify for the World Cup from September to November. Their last World Cup qualifier will be against Armenia for the return leg in Portugal on November 16.
Ronaldo is expected to play for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and if they qualify for the World Cup, the Al Nassr star is expected to play against Mexico as the World Cup gets closer.
