After two seasons with Club León, James Rodríguez is set to leave the Mexican club at the end of the Apertura 2025. León has two games left in the Apertura 2025 and has a very slim chance of reaching the playoffs.
The Colombian star joined the club in early January as the Mexican club announced the signing of Rodríguez on January 13, 2025.
Rodríguez's arrival in León caused excitement in Liga MX fans, and in his first season during the 2025 Clausura, the team finished 6th in the table and was eliminated in the quarterfinals to Cruz Azul, losing 5-3 on aggregate.
Rodríguez and León have not done well in the Apertura, and with not securing a spot in the playoffs being likely, the Colombian star's last games for the club would be against Club América this weekend and then against Puebla on November 8.
Why is James Rodríguez leaving Club León?
James Rodríguez's contract with Club León is set to expire on December 31, 2025. He signed a one-year contract when he joined at the start of 2025.
According to reports from César Luis Merlo, Rodríguez will not continue at León as the club does not plan to extend his contract past 2025. Rodríguez will become a free agent once again. It is unclear where he may go.

Rodríguez has been linked to a move to another club in Mexico, like Club América. Rodríguez is not expected to retire as Colombia qualified for the 2026 World Cup and remains a key part of the Colombian national team.
The 34-year-old attacking midfielder scored five goals and eight assists in 32 appearances for León this year.
