All eyes for Matchday 15 were on Guadalajara as Chivas welcomed closest rivals Atlas to the Estadio Akron whilst there was a big showdown in the capital with Monterrey's visit to Cruz Azul.
The weekend started on the border as Juárez and Puebla contributed eight goals, while last-gasp drama decided San Luis' meeting with Necaxa.
Here is everything you missed in the Liga MX Apertura, Matchday 15.
Friday 24th October
Juárez 4-4 Puebla
Juárez and Puebla shared eight goals with Las Camotes scoring two goals in the final five minutes of the game to salvage a point in the furthest away game in the Liga MX calendar. Looking to close the gap away from the bottom spot in the league, Puebla needed a 95th-minute equaliser from Luis Gabriel Rey to ruin Juárez's hopes of climbing into 7th place.
Mazatlán 2-2 Club América
Las Águilas relied on a Brian Rodríguez 89th-minute goal to earn a point in Sinaloa, with Mazatlán left underwhelmed, having seemed destined for a second league win in 12 matches, but left disappointed knowing that maximum points could have kept their faintest of playoff dreams alive.
Saturday 25th October
Tigres 2-0 Tijuana
Tigres makes it eleven games without defeat with a comfortable victory over Tijuana, thanks to goals from André Pierre-Gigac and Ángel Correa, taking them to within a point of league leaders Toluca. As for Los Xolos, they have fallen outside of the automatic playoff positions, sitting two points adrift with two matches left to play.
León 1-1 Pumas
Pumas needed a stoppage-time penalty to avoid defeat in Guanajuato, having already missed from the penalty spot 30 minutes earlier when Nathan Silva's attempt was denied by the diving Oscar García. A point apiece all but confirms León's end to the season, sitting four points outside of the playoff positions, in 17th place, whilst Pumas remain hopeful in 13th, only two points away from a postseason place.
Chivas 4-1 Atlas
Chivas took all the applause this weekend as Armando ‘Hormiga’ González walked away with the match ball, moving within one goal of Toluca’s Paulinho and San Luis’ João Pedro at the top of the scoring charts. A fifth win in six matches lifts Chivas into sixth place, eyeing a spot in the automatic playoff positions after a dismal start to the campaign.
Cruz Azul 2-0 Monterrey
La Máquina built on their Clásico Joven victory last weekend by beating another title-rival Monterrey, in a game where the visitors played most of it with 10-men. Óliver Torres' 24th minute red card made it an uphill task for Los Rayados as a long-range strike from Jesús Orozco opened the scoring before the end of the half, and a last-minute goal from Angel Sepúlveda secured all three points for the home side.
Sunday 26th October
Santos Laguna 3-1 Querétaro
Santos Laguna have made a late attempt at a spot in the play-in positions, finding themselves up into tenth by handing Los Gallos a ninth league defeat, a record only worsened by Puebla.
San Luis 3-4 Necaxa
One of the contenders for game of the week came at the Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez, in San Luis Potosí, as Necaxa came from behind twice to cause a major upset on the road. João Pedro joined Paulinho at the top of the goalscoring charts by scoring a brace for the hosts, but joy was crushed when Diber Cambindo found a 93rd minute winner for Los Rayos, keeping their limited hopes of a postseason feature alive.
Toluca 2-2 Pachuca
Shared points feels more like a loss for league leaders Toluca, who, despite already securing qualification for the playoffs, were hoping to strengthen their bid to finish the regular season at the top of the table. Two earlier goals for Toluca seemed enough to continue their efforts to retain the Liga MX title, but a double from Enner Valencia pulled Los Tuzos back into the game before star play Alexis Vega suffered a heartbreaking hamstring injury, which seems set to sideline the winger until the end of the Apertura.
