The summer transfer window closes on September 1, and clubs are still working on either signings or departures. In the Serie A, Genoa is set to make sure that there is no key player leaving the club this summer, including Johan Vásquez.
Vásquez has been named team captain at Genoa, which shows how the club views the player in the sqaud. Genoa manager Patrick Vieira has lots of trust in the Mexican defender, and Vásquez played the full match against Lecce last weekend at home.
Daniel Reyes Villaseño from FOX Sports MX reports that Vásquez will stay at Genoa and will renew his contract until 2028. His previous contract was set to expire on June 30, 2027. He signed his previous contract extension last year.
His contract extension is set to be announced in the next few weeks, and the Mexican player will have a salary raise. This new proposed contract extension comes as Vásquez brought interest from many clubs in Europe this summer, which could have been interesting options for the Mexican defender.
All European Clubs interested in Johan Vásquez
Vásquez has reportedly been one of the most desirable defenders in the market for many European clubs this summer. The Mexican defender had interest from the Premier League, the Bundesliga, the Portuguese league, and two Serie A teams.
Teams reportedly interested in Vásquez include Sunderland, FC Porto, Atalanta, Roma, and an unnamed Bundesliga club that will play in the Champions League. Genoa did not want to sell the defender this summer as he is seen as an important part of the club's squad and project.
