Guillermo Ochoa is currently a free agent, but he may find a club soon. After links to a return to Liga MX, Ochoa is set to return to Spain to play in the second division, La Liga 2.

Ochoa is not ready to retire and wants to continue playing. He looks to prepare for the 2026 World Cup despite being 40 years old. The Mexican goalkeeper may be intrigued by a move to Spain, despite playing in the second division.

The club of interest is Burgos CF, who are currently 4th in the table with four points after two games. The Spanish club reportedly made a formal offer to Ochoa and is waiting for the keeper to accept the offer. The transfer window closes on September 1, but the deal could be done after the deadline day.

Ochoa was linked to a move to Mazatlán in Liga MX, and the Mexican club offered a high salary for the player. Reports suggest that Ochoa prefers a move to Europe instead of a move to Liga MX or the MLS. Ochoa is set to make his decision soon.

Guillermo Ochoa Not Selected for Upcoming Mexico Games

The Mexican national team will return to action in September as they will play two friendlies. Mexico will take on Japan and South Korea in early September, and the FMF will soon announce the roster for the friendlies.

Gibran Araige from TUDN reports that Ochoa will not be called up for the matches against Japan and South Korea. Ochoa will look to decide on which club to join soon to earn future call-ups ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which would be his 6th if he is included in the roster.

Ochoa was called up for the 2025 Gold Cup but did not play any games during the tournament this summer. The last time Ochoa played for the Mexican national team was last year against Honduras in the first leg of the CONCACAF Nations League A Championship quarterfinal.
