Liga MX Review: Chivas beat Club América in Valentine's Day Clásico

A weekend full of revenge and historic moments across the league.

Valentine's Day was shaping up to be one for the history books with Chivas hosting Club América in the Estadio Akron.

Clásico Nacional was only one of the derbies taking place on the 14th, with San Luis and Querétaro sharing the pitch for Clásico 57.

Elsewhere, Nicólas Ibáñez was set to make his league debut for La Máquina, facing none other than Tigres, his former employer.

Friday 13th February 2026

Puebla 2-3 Pumas

The weekend started with chaos as Pumas fought from two goals down to earn maximum points, climbing to second in the table as Juninho scored an 88th minute winner.

Toluca 1-0 Tijuana

Toluca needed a single goal to overcome Tijuana in a game where Paulinho scored three goals, only for two of them to be ruled out.

Saturday 14th February 2026

San Luis 3-0 Querétaro

Clásico 57 ended in favour of Los Potosini's as João Pedro continued his fine goal-scoring form, despite interest from Cruz Azul.

Pachuca 3-1 Atlas

Los Tuzos made it three wins from six, leapfrogging Atlas in the table with Salomón Rondón making it two goals in as many games.

Monterrey 1-0 León

Monterrey returned to winning ways after last weekend's disappointing defeat to Club América with León failing to defend an inswinging freekick from Sergio Canales, which cleared everybody before hitting the back of the net.

Juárez 1-2 Necaxa

Juárez fell towards the foot of the table after failing to hold onto the lead as Javier Ruiz scored an 87th minute winner for Los Rayos.

Chivas 1-0 Club América

Clásico Nacional gave partners up and down the country a nightmare decision to make as Armando 'Hormiga' González scored the only goal of the game, getting on the end of a Diego Campillo header to make it six wins from six for Los Rojiblancos.

Sunday 15th February 2026

Cruz Azul 2-1 Tigres

Cruz Azul kept pace at the top of the table as new signing Ibáñez gave his former side a major headache as Los Felinos fall to eight points adrift of the league leaders.

Santos Laguna 1-2 Mazatlán

Mazatlán recorded a first win of the season to end the week, coming from behind to leaves Santos Laguna in a state of panic, having failed to win any of their opening six games of the year.
