Toluca FC midfielder Marcel Ruiz has been rumored of leaving the club this summer, as reports suggested that European clubs were interested in signing him. The Mexican midfielder was rumored to join the French league (Ligue 1) or the Dutch league (Eredivisie).

The club most interested came from South America as Brazilian club Palmeiras was willing to offer a bid for the Mexican midfielder. Reports in Mexico suggested that Toluca were looking to sell Ruiz for $12 million, a fee Palmeiras were considering to pay.

Ruiz joined Toluca in June 2022 and has played around 130 matches. The Mexican midfielder has become one of the best young players in the Mexican National team, meaning his value has only gone up. The move looked possible as Ruiz was reportedly open to the move.

After weeks of negotiations between Toluca and Palmeiras, the Brazilian club has reportedly 'given up' in signing Ruiz this summer. With a few weeks left until the summer transfer window closes, Ruiz may be closer to staying at Toluca unless a big offer from Europe arrives.

Marcel Ruiz Will Not Join Palmeiras

According to André Hernan from UOL Esporte, Palmeiras will no longer attempt to sign Marcel Ruiz from Toluca this summer. Sources close to Palmeiras suggest that Toluca are not willing to sell Ruiz this summer.

Palmeiras were reportedly willing to offer Ruiz a higher salary than what he earns at Toluca. The current Liga MX champions have expressed how vital Ruiz is to the team under Antonio Mohamed.

Mohamed was open in wishing his talented players joining European teams that are at a high level. Ruiz will most likely leave the club if an offer comes from the top five European leagues.

Ruiz staying at Toluca for another season may be due to the 2026 World Cup approaching. The midfielder has become a realistic option to be part of the World Cup roster for the Mexican national team.
