Mexico will face the United States in the Concacaf Gold Cup final after beating Honduras 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The only goal of the game came from a low-driven strike as Raúl Jiménez netted his second goal of the tournament. A lot of the credit for the goal goes to 16-year-old Gilberto Mora, who showed some quick feet to lay the ball into the Fulham forward's path to get the game's only assist.
Edson Álvarez had the ball in the back of the net for a second time in the game after tapping in an Alexis Vega free-kick, but VAR later spotted an offside in the build-up, ruling the goal out.
At the final whistle, Mexico secured their fourth consecutive clean sheet, extending their run without conceding to an impressive 383 minutes.
Much of the discussion around Mexico’s Gold Cup campaign has centred around Javier Aguirre’s starting XI. This time, only Jesús Gallardo and Erik Lira were missing from the side that beat Saudi Arabia, with César Montes and new AZ Alkmaar signing Mateo Chávez stepping in.
Fans got a clearer view of Tijuana's Mora, who kept his place in the starting lineup whilst earning the Man of the Match award. Not only did the young talent claim an assist, but he also won two tackles and eight duels.
Mexico vs USA: Another Clásico de Concacaf final
The grand finale gives us an instant classic as Mexico face the United States.
Since its inauguration in 1991, only once has a separate country lifted the ultimate prize (Canada 2000).
These two rivals have met each other in six previous Gold Cup finals, the first ending in a 4-0 victory for El Trí in 1993, while the most recent encounter handed the US. a seventh title, when Miles Robinson's 117th minute decided the tie.
