Mexico will be tasked with retaining their Gold Cup title, which they won in 2023, this summer, and Javier Aguirre has announced those responsible for trying to make that happen.
El Trí begins the summer with friendlies against Switzerland and Turkey, before turning their attention to the tournament, where they’ll take on Suriname, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.
The squad includes 11 players based at European clubs, as well as a mix of promising new talents and familiar names making their return.
Mexico's squad for the Gold Cup
The 26 players with a ticket to the Gold Cup:
The 2024/25 season has been fantastic for Mexican players establishing themselves in Europe, with Genoa defender Johan Vásquez winning the club's player of the season and is tipped for a big move this summer, whilst Santiago Giménez made a midseason move from Feyenoord to AC Milan, scoring 22 goals between the two clubs.
Fulham's Raúl Jimenez had his best attacking return in five years, as well as playing a crucial role in helping the national team win the Concacaf Nations League in March. Aguirre has also called César Huerta to join the squad, having left Pumas for Anderlecht in January.
There are other call-ups for Guillermo Ochoa, Mexico's legendary goalkeeper, who is playing for Portuguese club AVS at the age of 39, whilst the midfield duo of Orbellín Pineda and Luis Chávez from AEK Athens and Dinamo Moscow keep their places in the squad.
Domestically, Aguirre has brought Tijuana's 16-year-old Gilberto Mora up into the first team at the same time as newly crowned Liga MX champion Marcel Ruiz, who joins teammates Alexis Vega and Jesús Gallardo in the squad.
Fans have been calling on some fresh faces to join the squad, especially with the FIFA World Cup 12 months away, and Aguirre has responded by bringing Atlas winger Jeremy Márquez, Juan Sánchez Purata of Tigres and prospect Tijuana's Efraín Álvarez all into the squad.
There's special shoutouts to Hirving Lozano, whose performances with new side San Diego FC have brought him back into the conversation as Concacaf Champions Cup finalists Jesús Orozco, Ángel Sepúlveda and Carlos Rodríguez all in the summer squad, with former América forward Julian Quiñones maintaining his place in the squad with an impressive record with Al-Qadisiya in Saudi Arabia.
