Pachuca are familiar with letting young Mexican players move to Europe. From Hirving Lozano to Hector Herrera, Pachuca knows how to develop great talent. Their latest prospect is midfielder Elias Montiel, who has been on the radar of European teams.

Many Mexican National team fans hope that Montiel will earn a move to Europe after impressive performances with Pachuca in Liga MX. In Pachuca's recent 3-0 win over Atlas, Montiel shined as he provided two assists and created four chances, the most of any player in the game.

This recent performance once again pushed the idea of Montiel playing in Europe soon and earning a call-up to the Mexican National Team soon. New reports suggest that a couple of European clubs are interested in signing Montiel this summer.

Fans were excited to hear the news of Montiel potentially playing in Europe ahead of the World Cup next year, but the price tag Pachuca set may turn off interest.

Pachuca Wants More Than $20 million for Elias Montiel

According to César Luis Merlo, Pachuca asked $20 million to European clubs interested in Elias Montiel this summer. If the price tag is met, it would be Pachuca's most expensive sale since Enner Valencia in 2014, when he joined West Ham United for around $17.5 million.

The most expensive sale of a Mexican player who played in Pachuca was Rodolfo Pizarro, who joined Chivas in 2016 for around $16 million. Hirving Lozano joined PSV for around $14 million, while Hector Herrera joined FC Porto for around $12 million.

Montiel made his senior debut for Pachuca in June 2023 and has since become a crucial player for the team. He got a taste of European football when he played in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with Pachuca.

Montiel played against RB Salzburg, Real Madrid, and Al Hilal. He scored a goal against Real Madrid and was the best performer for Pachuca in that game. Montiel and Pachuca will be in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals against LA Galaxy next week.
