Javier Aguirre's Mexican National Team continues to struggle in another friendly match as they drew 0-0 against Uruguay at the Estadio Corona in Torreón, Mexico. Mexico is now winless in their last five matches.
The last time Mexico won a match was in the 2025 Gold Cup Final against the United States, where they won 2-1. Since then, the preparations ahead of the 2026 World Cup have been disappointing for many Mexican fans.
Mexico has played against five teams that will play in the next World Cup, and so far, Mexico has drawn four of them and lost one. Mexico drew with Japan 0-0, South Korea 2-2, Ecuador 1-1, and now Uruguay 0-0.
Mexico's only loss in the five friendlies was against Colombia, which was a 4-0 loss. After the draw against Uruguay, loud boos rang around the Estadio Corona.
The hostile crowd was very angry about the performance of the team, but other reactions that the Mexican National Team players noticed were their reaction towards goalkeeper Jose 'Tala' Rangel and to the head coach of Mexico, Javier 'Vasco' Aguirre.
Fans chanted "P*to" at Rangel since the majority of fans wanted to see Santos Laguna goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo start. Chants of "Fuera Vasco" were also heard in the stadium.
After the match, Raúl Jiménez called out the Mexican fanbase in attendance, and his words caused a lot of reactions among the Mexican National Team fanbase online.
Raúl Jiménez's words towards Mexico fans
After the 0-0 draw against Uruguay, Raúl Jiménez was asked if there was a bit of sadness among themselves for not being able to beat Uruguay after generating more chances than the opponent.
Jiménez changed the focus towards the fans in the stadium and said it was sad how the people in attendance booed the team.
"I think what saddens us is that we play at home and they boo us. [Them] shouting 'Fuera Vasco', that they shout 'P*to' to our goalkeeper. This is what leaves [us with] sadness, to be honest. Maybe that's why they always take us [to play] in the United States. We have to move foward."
“What saddens us the most is that we’re playing at home and we get booed, that they shout ‘Fuera Vasco’, that they shout ‘P*to’ to our goalie.

The majority of Mexican fans reacted negatively towards Jiménez and Álvarez's words after the match. Fans are demanding better performances ahead of the World Cup, and Mexico will now travel to the U.S. for their friendly match against Paraguay at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
